US Open TV Coverage – Full Listings

2012 US Open TV CoverageThe second Major of the 2012 PGA Tour season has arrived and the USGA has prepared some compelling pairings that are made for Prime Time TV.

With the 2012 US Open at Olympic Club, in the West Coast Time Zone, coverage will go well into Eastern Prime Time.
Can Tiger get the low left to right stinger working off the tee? He better, the course requires a cut, left to right shot off 8 of the 14 par 4 and 5 holes. Obviously he’s on form with victories at two of the toughest tests on tour this year, Bay Hill and Muirfield Village. Is the elusive “Number 15″ right around the corner?

Will Rory find something and defend after his first decent finish, in Memphis,  after 3 consecutive missed cuts? He’s had all coaches on deck for the last 2 weeks looking, poking and hopefully coaching.

Lee Westwood certainly has all the shots and will most likely lead the field in Greens in Regulation again, as he did at the 1998 US Open at Olympic Club. However, will the putter come up short, as it has so many times before? Time is running out, even with the new physique, to shake the “Best Never to Win a Major” title.

Can Luke Donald finally end the discussion over whether or not a World Number 1 needs a major in order to wear the crown? Even if he makes history and wins the Money List and Order of Merit in the same year?

Steve Stricker has a game built for US Opens but, that game has been shaky at best over the last few months as Strick fought injury and uncharacteristically poor putting. Stricker claims he has gone back to basics and he’s “found something” this week with the putter. If he putts, he wins.

Can Jason Dufner, the Coolest Guy on Tour, Waggle his way to Major Champion status? We’ll see if the Best Month Ever was for real, or just a flash.

Given my horrible recent history in picking the Major Winner, I’m going to cash in an editorial privilege and make 3 picks. In no particular order:
• Tiger Woods
 • Lee Westwood
 • Steve Stricker
Here are a few of those compelling groups the USGA concocted:
• Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Bubba Watson   aka “A Marshal’s Nightmare”
 • Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood   aka “1, 2 and 3″
 • Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia and Graham McDowell   aka “2 Winners and A Wimp
 • Martin Kaymer, Hunter Mahan and Justin Rose   aka “Foley Learns German”
 • Steve Stricker, Ian Poulter and Matt Kuchar   aka “The Putting Clinic”
